Chinese Elm
Good repot, hedge cut this early
Cutback again in May
Potato Vine Repot
Too straight out of the soil and leader was parallel to the soil—consider angling it.
Repotted at an angle
Prior to change
Korean Hornbeam Cutback
Japanese Snowbell Repot
Adam likes it a lot. Great tree and value.
Not in refinement stage, so medium size soil.
There is some reverse taper in the mid-section. It may smooth out over time. Leave the lower branches to bulk up below.
Can go back into the same container (possibly a low green pot. Cut the pot a few inches shorter, removed the lower roots and made the RuPaul as shallow as possible.
There were two sections of the flare which were unusually wide or uncorrected earlier. Evidence that roots grow well from cuts, so we cut those back and the top roots will develop fully.
Placed in medium to large size Lava for three or 4 inches then covered the roots gently with the same Lava, then the top inch or so with a standard bonsai mix. No wires needed let it grow, let it grow, let it grow.
Princess persimmon, Working on Adam’s tree
Sinuous Boon Jieun style, but very flawed. Some trunk rot and a split exposed roots and Adam chose to cut it all back to the roots.
Princess persimmons are propagated by root cuttings so encourage that it will start from Scratch.
There were some remnant roots that I will try to grow from
Trident Mame recommendations
The tree has flaws in the trunk and Adam recommends a chopped and resetting. He is more aggressive, but this seems correct.
The trunk in this tight curve has a flat or oval trunk. The tight curve caused the inside of the curve to grow very fast and one strong root on the outside surface, made that grow faster than the sides. May not be able to correct it, but it is what it is.
He does suggest changing the angle so that it is more vertical
Cover the roots, always cover the roots with soil. Then when there are roots developed circumferentially everywhere he may even cut roots back so that they grow fine roots and have a nice Nabari. But only then would he expose the roots
