Japanese black pine - Pinching

  • This is spring pinching. It is not decandling. It is the technique to use to try to equalized the balance on the trees energy. .

  • We need to see needles poke out from the candles.

  • How much do you leave it depends on size and location.

  • Keep about 1/4 on very strong area (top and the end of strong branches.

  • Keep 1/2 on medium size and medium energy

  • Keep 3/4 on smaller ones. On the lower part

  • Keep as is where it is weak area.

  • We will decandle this tree in June.
