Japanese black pine - Pinching
This is spring pinching. It is not decandling. It is the technique to use to try to equalized the balance on the trees energy. .
We need to see needles poke out from the candles.
How much do you leave it depends on size and location.
Keep about 1/4 on very strong area (top and the end of strong branches.
Keep 1/2 on medium size and medium energy
Keep 3/4 on smaller ones. On the lower part
Keep as is where it is weak area.
We will decandle this tree in June.
