A Song Within Us All

Either harmonizing to a common chorus with others, or a singular verse that may resonate with others—most of us move to music. It crosses language and generational boundaries. Music can be an expression of the people—joy, hope, sorrow, remembrance, or merely a rhythm to synchronize hearts.

In my late fifties, I cannot boast any musical talent, except a wicked whistling. Of late, I have plucked at guitar and hope to continuously grow and have it become a natural expression. My appreciation of a panoply of music and song has inspired me to attempt song-craft.

As with many of you, I cannot drink from a well of great sorrow or angst, anger or ecstasy to inspire me. “What do I have to say that others will like or connect with?” But popularity or livelihood is not my goal, not even likes. I merely have an impulse to share a small experience that brings me joy or release when played.

As I explore the theory and mechanics of song-craft, I wish for some seeds to take root and organically blossom into something to share with others.
