Sierra Juniper, Yamadori #2526
Collected. Few roots, cut trunk with pry-bar. Wonderful, low arcing trunk, twisting live vein around natural deadwood. Will need extra attention and care to recover and grow roots. Will use a heated pad below, larger contained humidity greenhouse and humidifier.
For root development, oriented potting in this manner. Once roots emerge, final potting trunk desired to be more upright, then fold branches down for compact height.
Apr 15 Cleaned Up dead needles
Removed any brown or weak foliage
Applied SuperThrive misting
Dec 20 Gio feedback
Upper foliage looks drier and less fresh
Lower, shaded foliage stands up and looks good
Normal to lose roughly 1/3 of foliage in the next month or two.
Suggests shade cloth that half of the greenhouse—UV can break through the overcast clouds and affect the tree.
Looks like scale (power wash) and do not use oils on junipers.
Mold on wood grow box, so let the tree dry out
Dec 18, 2025
Two months in, looking promising, but less soft foliage than the other collected juniper at the same time.
Greenhouse: 40”x36”x30”
RECOVERY
Greenhouse managing humidity, elevated for sunlight, side of house for limited strong daylight.
Watering based on soil dryness and foliage visible/tactile health (2-3X each week)
Humidifier at night with a small fan and open paths for fresh air. 90-95% RH. Off during the day and more panels open to dry out, 70-75% RH.
