Soil for Collected trees

  • Best soil after collecting is straight pumice, if you have it. High drainage soil is best, can even fall back to lava.

  • Top dress with sphagnum (can mix with standard dry chopped moss.

  • Keep moist but let it drain.

  • Including redwood.

  • Problem with potting soil is that it can dry out and become hydrophobic and not rehydrate.
