Going through my current collected stock, the work done periodically (now) will build good material for bonsai.

  • Remove suckers growing out of the soil or lower few inches of the trunk.

  • Remove redundant branches that emerge at the same point—keeping the best branch emerging perpendicular to the trunk, removing those at odd angles.

  • Select branches that are directly above or below each.

  • When possible, wire branches with movement and downward angle as the branches are lower on the trunk.

  • Let lower branches run longer than upper branches to get thicker.

  • If a new apex is selected to grow vertical and dominate over the trunk k chop,
