Winter Recap
My back yard is chock full of little (and big trees), with recently collected trees under plastic shrouds look like ghosts lurking. Gio suggested that he and his workshops are repotting already.
Removing deciduous leaves, fallen or near fallen. Removed fertilizer teabags.
Contrary to Gio’s experience to not fertilize 0-10-10 during winter (for root development and fruiting buds), I am only applying to fruiting or flowering or collected trees that did not get a high dose of fertilizer this year. For those plants in development that had high salt fertilizer schedule this year, this is a time of rest.
Reviewing plants needing wiring or structural shaping.
I pulled the trigger in a few air-layers that did not fully strike roots. Better late than never, placed on a warming mat, bagging the foliage.
Cleaning around benches for loose leaves or fungus.
At the end of the year, I count 44 new trees or projects. Most are more mature or collected trees. I should see what plants do not recover in spring or not worth the bench space.
