Collecting Season

November 23, 2024

Returned to Skyline in Redwood City to collect. Has been raining on and off much of last week, but a day of sunshine.

Coast Redwood

Found a redwood with a large bulbous base that tapers to 2 inches, then rather straight. Few branches and leggy for the first few feet, but will repot and hope that healthy recovery will back bud and fill out the trunk with foliage.

Douglas Fir

About an inch-and-a-half wide at the base, with much movement for the first 10 inches and then straight for the next three feetβ€”at an angle. Can develop taper over time. Roots present, long and supple but not a vast network. Potted in mostly pumice and akadama in a wood grow box. Placed on a heated mat, misted and bagged.

Monterey Cypress

Yardadori dig and take for free. Gio was a great help, as I greedily took the largest tree. Learned a great deal about sensitive species collected, and additional aftercare tips. First week of December.

TBD

One last collecting trip to Skyline with Gio for a modest look. Just before Christmas.
